It is hard to believe that I am half done with my undergrad, it sure has been an adventure! This year I transferred to Wayne State University for my second year of school. Little did I know, it would be one of the best decisions of my life. From the very beginning of the year, I just felt so much optimism and joy.
I started the year by going through formal recruitment. I proudly joined Kappa Delta and gained 60+ sisters that I couldn’t be more grateful for. Having this amazing support system to push me to do my best has been a huge part of my successful year. I have thrown myself into my sorority and current hold 7 positions: including leadership chair, a SET leader, and a recruitment day head for fall formal recruitment. I truly can’t imagine what life was like before Tuesdays laughing my butt off with my bestfriends for hours.
This school year, I held three part time jobs. College, greek life, and a shopping addiction is expensive people! My after school teacher job has taught me so much. Although sometimes my kids drive me totally insane, I love having them in my life. They bring so much joy and happiness into my life. I have learned a ton about dealing with difficult children, how to plan taking chaos into consideration, and to mend hurt feelings. I have also been working at Sugar Kids Spa, we provide pampering birthday parties for young girls. It is so fun and really brightens my day to get to spoil little princesses every weekend.
Academically, second semester was my best semester ever! I took five classes, three being for my major. It was a difficult semester but I proudly finished the semester with a 3.73! A year ago, I would’ve never thought I had that in me! My GPA is now exactly where I want it to be. I can’t wait to go back to school in the fall and do even better. Wayne State has challenged me; however, I have learned so tremendously much. I also just got the news that I received a $1,000 through the College of Education (YAY).
Overall, I just feel so blessed. I couldn’t be more thankful for the support and encouragement I have received over the last year. Now it is time for summer to start and attend MYLead as a Facilities Director and my last conference as a CA. With summer classes, working, and trying to fit some fun in, this summer should be great!
Joining a sorority is something I’ve always wanted to do. The leadership, sisterhood, and community service all sounded great to me! Those are all things I love and wanted to be a part of. Last week I went through formal recruitment at Wayne State and I found my home. Kappa Delta felt comfortable from the beginning but as the week went on I fell more and more in love. The first day pulled me right in when we talked about philanthropies. Our philanthropies are Prevent Child Abuse America and Girl Scouts of America. I am really looking forward to making an impact through these organizations. The preference ceremony sealed the deal for me on the last day of recruitment. The love and support in that room brought me to tears.
The last few days have solidified that I made the right decision to run home to Kappa Delta. My sisters have shown me nothing but love, support, and compassion. The active members have been so willing to answer questions and be friends with the new members. My pledge class has already grown close through our retreat, lunch dates, and homecoming festivities. It is hard to put into words how much happiness Kappa Delta has brought me already. I can’t wait to see what the next few years bring.
This week I started my sophomore year at Wayne State University. I have had an amazing week. It started out with a huge campus wide event called Festifall. Festifall is an event where students get the opportunity to explore all that WSU has to offer from clubs to university departments. They all have tables and give out tons of free stuff! I had the opportunity to represent WSU HOSA as the chapter’s Vice President. The event went great, we had over 200 students show interested in HOSA.
Wednesday I started attending classes. I had a great time and all my professors are fantastic. I can already tell this semester is going to be my best one yet. Everyone in my classes was so nice and friendly. Heck, I made friends on the first day! Walking around on an urban college campus was much difference than my previous college experience. There was so much going on and so many people. I thrived off all the energy. It was a great start to the fall semester! I am looking forward to all the opportunities I am presented with during the upcoming months.
I have really awesome news! I will be attending Wayne State University this fall. I can’t believe I am going to be a sophomore in college! I will be studying kinesiology with a concentration in exercise science. I hope to join a sorority in the fall and join the honors college in the spring. CMU taught me a lot about what I care about and what I want in life. It just wasn’t for me. I am really looking forward to making an impact at WSU. I am so excited to be a Warrior! I am so excited for all the opportunities that are available to me in Detroit.
